Canoe/Kayak/Paddleboard Trip
on the Contoocook River

Saturday, August 23, 2014
9:30 am (8:15 am if renting equipment)
Jane Lewellen Bandstand, Contoocook Village

If you have your own equipment, you are responsible for your ground transportation.  Options include paddling back to Contoocook Village, or parking at Contoocook River Canoe Co. (CRCC) and having CRCC shuttle you and your equipment to Contoocook Village ($10.00 fee).  Reservations are required for the shuttle service and must be made by phone (603-753-9804).  You must be at Contoocook River Canoe Co. by 8:15 am on the day of the trip.

If you want to rent equipment, contact CRCC to make a reservation.  Reservations must be made by August 9 in order to guarantee availability and must be made by phone (603-753-9804).  Mention the Hopkinton Historical Society and receive a 10% discount.  You must be at Contoocook River Canoe Co. by 8:15 am on the day of the trip.

For those renting equipment and/or being shuttled, Contoocook River Canoe Co. owner Pat Malfait will give a brief history of activities along the river from Contoocook to Penacook prior to the shuttle departure.

The paddle will begin at the Jane Lewellen Bandstand around 9:30 am.  For those who choose to, the trip to Contoocook River Canoe Co. is nine miles downriver on flat water and takes approximately three to five hours.  Participants will be given a sheet identifying items of interest.  Along the way there will be places to stop and enjoy a picnic or hike, as well as go swimming and fishing.  Just below the Tyler Bridge in Contoocook, participants will also have the opportunity to tour a 1920s-era boat house with its current owner.

Recommended items to bring include water (2 quarts), bathing suit and towel, sunglasses, hat, sunscreen, lunch, trash bag, extra change of clothes, shoes that can get wet, dry bag to keep items dry, and camera.

Contoocook River Canoe Co. (www.contoocookcanoe.com) is located at 9 Horse Hill Road in Concord, NH.  The phone number is 603-753-9804.
